Godzilla vs. Kong will be released in 2021 as a sequel to King of the Monsters and Kong: Skull Island.
Godzilla vs. Kong is a movie about two mythical monsters fighting each other. The fate of the world is at stake. They set off on a dangerous journey to find Kong's true home. Jia, a young orphaned girl with whom he has formed a unique and powerful bond, is with them. Then, out of nowhere, they find themselves in the path of Godzilla, who is on the verge of going on a rampage across the world. Unknown forces are to blame for causing the titans to fight in an epic battle. This is only the beginning of the mystery that lies deep inside the Earth.
After Godzilla and Kong battled and defeated Ghidorah in 2019, the two Titans are the only active Titans on Earth in 2024. It was necessary for Monarch to confine Kong to a dome-shaped facility that mimicked the island's environment, where he was joined by a young Iwi girl named Jia, who is deaf and uses sign language to communicate with Kong. This provided Kong with some company while he was in captivity on Skull Island.
Meanwhile, Bernie Hayes, an employee of the Apex Cybernetics business and presenter of the Titan Truth Podcast, exfiltrates material indicating ominous activity at an Apex facility in Pensacola, but just as he finishes downloading the data, Godzilla appears and strikes unexpectedly. Bernie finds an odd piece of equipment like a huge robotic eye amid the facility's debris during Godzilla's assault.
Meanwhile, Apex's founder and CEO, Walter Simmons, hires Nathan Lind, a former Monarch scientist turned Hollow Earth theorist, to assist them in their hunt for a tremendous energy source in the Hollow Earth, a subterranean planet under the Earth and the secret home of the Titans. Nathan is first cautious since his brother attempted to investigate the Hollow Earth, but a powerful anti-gravity field within the tube killed him. After Walter discloses that Apex has constructed and produced Hollow Earth Aerial Vehicles, specialized vehicles capable of withstanding the gravity field's pressure, he eventually accepts.
Upon finding Bernie, Madison and Josh realize that he is Mark's daughter and he joins them in their investigation. The "eye" Bernie had previously indicated has gone from the Apex headquarters. The group mistakenly sealed and moved Skullcrawler eggs to Hong Kong through an underground conduit.
Kong and Nathan's group discover a similar ecology to Skull Island within the Hollow Earth. They are ambushed by a pair of Warbats while traversing the area, with one of the HEAVs being destroyed by one of them. Kong saved the party by killing the first Warbat and swinging its carcass into the second, knocking it out, but the beast recovers and constricts around him. Before the Warbat can smother Kong, it is hit by missiles fired by Nathan's squad in their HEAV, allowing Kong to escape and viciously thrash the monster to death before gorging on its intestines.
After that, Kong and Nathan's team keep going on their journey. They reach their destination at a huge stone temple that once belonged to Kong's ancestors. In the movie, Kong finds an ancient axe made from the dorsal plate of a dead member of Godzilla's race as he explores inside. Then, he sits on top of a huge throne on the inside of the cave. Kong learned that the same power source that Nathan's team found can also recharge the axe. The Apex team, on the other hand, uses spider-like drones to get the power source and send it back to their base in Hong Kong, even though Ilene says that Apex can't just take the power source. Maia has her guards aim their guns at Nathan's team, only for Kong to angrily bellow at them in their defense. In the meantime, Mechagodzilla sends Godzilla a signal. When Godzilla senses the machine's activation, he heads right for Hong Kong.
There, Godzilla makes his way into the heart of the city and sensing Kong's presence in the Hollow Earth, drills a shaft to the ecosystem with his atomic breath, causing the temple to collapse. Kong and Nathan's team fight off a flock of Hellhawks while Maia and her team try to flee in their HEAV, only for Kong to grab it on their way out and, despite Maia attempting to shoot him in order to escape, he instantly crushes the aircraft in his hand after peeking inside to make sure that Jia, Ilene and Nathan aren't in there, killing Maia and her personnel inside.
Godzilla recovers and rises up as he hunts for Kong atop a skyscraper. Kong ambushes Godzilla from above and holds him in a chokehold, attempting to strangle him. Despite Kong's attempts to get Godzilla off of him by striking his damaged leg, Godzilla breaks free and unleashes his entire rage on Kong, dislocating his left arm, slicing him with his claws, and even stomping on his chest twice. Godzilla roars angrily at Kong, his vanquished opponent who is bound and held down.
Godzilla shows pity and saves his rival's life before walking away, leaving Kong alive but gravely hurt as he finally loses consciousness due to commotio cordis.
Due to the impact of both the energy source and Ghidorah's brain networks, which Walter is unaware of while monologuing about his invention, the robot Mechagodzilla goes berserk, murdering Walter with a sweep of its palm and electrocuting Ren. Because of Ghidorah's brainwashing, the newly mutated Mechagodzilla escapes the Apex facility under Victoria Peak Mountain and destroys the city before Godzilla has a chance to deal with it in person. The two monsters quickly come face to face, and Mechagodzilla unleashes a volley of missiles at Godzilla before the fight begins.
Seeing Kong clutching his axe, Godzilla supercharges it by blasting the weapon with his atomic breath, enabling Kong to dismember Mechagodzilla limb from limb and tearing its head off before holding up his prize with a tremendous cry of victory and sitting down to rest.
Monarch will have built an observation station in the Hollow Earth at a later date. When Kong walks by one morning, Ilene, Nathan, and Jia are all there to observe him. To declare his new home and kingdom, the Ruler of the Hollow Earth, Kong leaps onto an overhanging rock and pounds his chest, roaring as he declares himself the new king of this land.
